GYƐ is a Ghanaian fashion house in development, bringing Ghanaian textile heritage into contemporary modest clothing. Built between Maryland and Ghana, with creative and sourcing connections in Kumasi and Accra.
Beginnings
GYƐ is a Ghanaian fashion house in development, created to bring Ghanaian textile heritage into contemporary modest clothing. The house is being built between Maryland and Ghana, with creative and sourcing connections in Kumasi and Accra.
The starting point is material. Handwoven Kente, fluid satin and breathable cotton-linen each behave differently, and each asks for a different silhouette. We would rather design from how a cloth moves than print heritage onto a garment and call it a tribute.
ADOM is the founding collection and holds four lines: HERITAGE and MATTE in a cotton-linen blend, SATIN in a single Royal Blue crepe-back satin, and KENTE built around handwoven Ghanaian cloth. Head drapes and scarves sit alongside all four and are always sold separately.
We are at the beginning, and we say so. Patterns are being drafted, prototypes sewn, cloth sourced, and production partners sought. Nothing here claims a workshop or a relationship that is not yet real, and this page will grow into a record of what we actually build.

Material-led design
GYƐ begins with how a material moves. Handwoven Kente, fluid satin and breathable cotton-linen each require a different approach to silhouette.
Modest proportion
Coverage does not mean sacrificing design. Necklines, width, drape, sleeves and length are treated as part of the architecture of each garment.
Small-batch development
Pieces begin as prototypes. Fit, movement and construction are refined before a design becomes a permanent offering.
Honest sourcing
Where a material or maker comes from will be identified when confirmed. GYƐ will not claim production relationships that do not yet exist.
The People Behind the Cloth
We are in the process of finding the weavers, tailors and suppliers GYƐ will work with. When those relationships are agreed, we will name them here, along with how they are paid. Nothing is claimed until it is signed.
