Why Modest Clothing Is a Design Language

Coverage is not a restriction on design. Treated properly, it is the brief that produces the most interesting garments.

Modest dress asks you to solve for coverage without losing line. Once a neckline cannot drop and a hem cannot rise, the interest has to come from somewhere else: width, drape, sleeve architecture, the placement of a shoulder seam, the weight of a cloth.

That constraint is why so much of the most enduring clothing in the world is modest clothing. It has to earn attention through construction rather than exposure.

At GYƐ, coverage is decided at the pattern stage rather than corrected later with a layer. Necklines, sleeve length, body width and hem are treated as part of the architecture of the garment.
